| In the
script that I have, the scene where Jody gives Peter the
note from Caine happens in Chandlers. Peter is sitting at
a table alone. After she gives him the note, rather than
chide herself for letting her guard down, she thanks
Peter for saving her life. Peter: "No big deal. Forget it." Jody: "No. I owe you." (sits down) "Maybe we should discuss how I can repay you." Kelly: (out of shot) (frostily) "Hello, detective." Kelly comes into view, has to squeeze by Jody's chair... Kelly: "Excuse me." (takes seat opposite Peter) "Sorry, I couldn't get off the phone. Did you order for me?" Jody is mortified as she realizes Peter has a date. Peter: "Not yet." (to Jody) "Would you like to join us?" Jody reacts, jumps and: Jody: "No. I just wanted to give you that message." Kelly: "I think he got it." Jody shoots Kelly a hostile look, then: Jody: "See ya'." She moves out of view as: Kelly: "What was that about?" Peter: "She told me my father left town for a few days." Kelly: "Where is he going?" Peter: "He didn't say." (ponders a beat) "But I think I know." |

| During the scene at the
bar in Altamont, when Caine asks Lisa if the Becker's are
moving, she turns to him and asks, "Are you a big
tipper too?" To that, Caine reacts in puzzlement,
and Peter places anothe ten on the bar. Then she answers. |

| When Caine puts out the
fire in the house, Becker says, "How did you do
that?" Caine: "It is difficult to explain." Teresa: (to Becker) "Get used to it, dear. That's Caine, my favorite mystic." The scene continues with slightly different dialog. No major difference. Rather than Peter ending the scene by saying he doesn't have a history with the cops, instead Caine insists that Becker and Teresa need to be alone to comfort each other, and both men leave. Outside, Peter asks, "She's very beautiful. Were you...close?" Caine: "Yes." Peter: "Close enough that you were...uh...you know..." Caine: "What?" Peter: "It's just that I've never thought of you with any other woman except Mom." Caine: "Before now, there was no reason to." Peter: "Okay, here it is. Were you in love with Teresa?" Caine: "I was not free to love." Peter: "And what if you had been?" Caine: "I do not know." Peter knows this is all the explanation he will get. |

| Caine accompanies Peter
to the sheriff's station. Mills gives Peter the same lame
cover. Peter: "Okay, fine. I know when I'm being sandbagged. I'm a cop, too. I understand about covering your buddy." Caine: "I do not." Peter: "The thin blue line, Pop -- us against everyone else. But this is a serious crime -- the people in that truck could have killed someone. The brotherhood of the badge doesn't cover that." This is when Mills gives Peter his "cop to cop" advice, though he doesn't use those words in the script. It's Caine who responds to it, not Peter. Caine: "This is a warning my grandfather heard many times in his wanderings. Yet he always followed his own light." I liked what Peter said in the episode. I also like the fact that Peter said it. "As my great-grandfather would say, 'We will leave, when it is time.'" |

| There is a scene of
Caine and Peter entering the Vinson household. Jane is so
high, she's elated to see them, especially Caine. When
Peter asks her where her husband is, she replies,
"He's in the study, pretending to work." |

| When they are unpacking
and cleaning up the clinic, Peter and Nickie are helping.
Instead of another firebomb, Mills and Vinson storm the
clinic. They tell the others that there will be a
terrible fire and that many lives will perish. Then
Vinson and Mills move in with some deputies to tie them
up. Caine and Peter start some kung fu fighting with
Becker and Nickie joining in. Just when they've
overpowered Mills' men, he grabs Teresa and holds his gun
to her throat. He backs to the exit and finds himself
with a gun to his neck. It belongs to Sheriff Dowd, who
threatens him to drop his weapon. Mills obeys. |

| The tag is shorter,
given the fact that some similar dialog is earlier in the
script. It ends with Caine saying. "It is a loss
perhaps never to be regained." Then Peter puts his
arm around Caine's shoulder and they walk off. |
