Script differences
The tag in the script as more dialog between Strenlich and Peter before Reston shows up. Peter is tense and Strenlich can see it.

Strenlich: "Take it easy. Markham's the best."
Peter: "Reston's better. If there's a crack in the floor he'll slide through it. He's got eyes that cut through to your soul."
Strenlich: (more to himself) "Sounds like your father talking."
Peter: (flaring) "I don't have opinions, is that it? All I know about life, love and the Yankees is what I learned in that temple? My father speaks through me?"
Strenlich: "Slow the motor down, Detective. And be alert. Here's our boy."

When Peter senses something's wrong, Strenlich asks: (and edge) "You can tell that from here?"
Peter: "Body language is all wrong. Something else I picked up from good old Dad."

Then the scene goes on from there.

When Peter comes out of the flashback where Caine teaches him "observation precedes wisdom", Peter says in frustration, "Why can't I do it now?"
Blaisdell: "What?"

Then Peter continues with his speech about the street looking different.

Peter's introduction to Laurie is a lot more friendly in the script. In the episode I detected a distance between them. Kermit was friendlier, considering that he said in "Ancient Love" that kids aren't his forte.

Laurie: "You're a detective grade like Mary Margaret, huh?"
Despite himself, Peter smiles. Laurie has that effect on people.
Peter: "I see you know the lingo. Did you take a police field trip at school?"
Laurie: "Rerun of 'Hill Street Blues'."
Peter: "The best."
Skalany: "So okay if Laurie looks around with us? What have we got to lose?"
Peter: (nodding) "We've got nothing worth a rat's ass, now." (glancing at Laurie) "Sorry."
Laurie: "That's all right. The language in 'NYPD Blue' is more colorful. Mary Margaret told me a man was shot here in the street and you can't find the gun."
Peter: "That's right. I'll show you where it happened."

Sounds better than, "It happened over there..."

Later on, when Skalany breaks the news to Peter about Markham's death, Peter says, "Oh...god... I've known him for five years. He was Cheif of Detectives before Strenlich got transfered. Wanted to go back in the field."

Skalany: "They couldn't stop the bleeding."
Peter: (tighter) "Where's Reston?"
Skalany: "That's what I came to tell you. He's getting released within the hour."
Peter: "I'm going down there."
Skalany: "You're too close to it Peter. Leave it alone. We'll get him."
Peter: (ignoring this) "Thanks for coming personally."
He moves away from her. Skalany sighs and shakes her head.
