Dragon's Daughter

| Script
starts out with the scene between Caine and Zia, where
she tries to fight him. In the episode it was used in the
flashback. |
Monica Sztybel |
| The scene between Peter
and Cap (in the script it's not Cap, but a guy named
Sammy) was in act one and not the tease. Peter sees the
odd behavior while driving away from the ice cream stand,
rather than while standing in front of it. |
Monica Sztybel |
| During the scene in the
precinct, while Frank is telling Peter the situation,
rather than Hale Park, he says "Sloan Park". The scene is much longer than in the episode. It takes place in Strenlich's office, rather than out in the squadroom. Once Frank is finished with the story he says: "Not a reall chatty guy, is he." Peter: "He didn't tell you anything?" Strenlich: "Nope." Peter: (not unkindly, just trying to explain) "That's sort of his way." Strenlich: "Well, he ain't doing him or us any favors. I mean, there he is 'hands on' the body. I don't know if he killed the guy, was rifling his pockets... Peter: "...trying to help." Strenlich shoots Peter one of those looks. Strenlich: "Whatever." Then they go into their theory about the fight at the Ambrosia Club, though the script calls it the "Tailspin Club". Caine finally cuts in with "May I see the body?" This gets another look from Strenlich. Peter says, "He tends to get a lot more coopertive when he gets what he wants." That's when Strenlich gives up and says, "Suspect wants to see the body...works for me." |

| Instead of a Probe as
one of Nicky's choices of a car, he says Supra. |

| After they go to the
morgue, they return to Strenlich's office where Caine
finally tells them what's going on. Caine reveals she is
Tan's daughter in Strenlich's office not at the morgue. |

| Rather than the scene at
the gazebo, Caine is back at the precinct the next day
with Peter. Strenlich comments: "Spending a lot of time here lately." Peter insists that his father is the only one who can help them on their case. This is when they reveal that another body was found, while in the episode Peter just tells Caine. Frank hands Peter a sheet, describing the death, and Caine just stands there, apparently knowing that it had occured. It's Frank who resists Caine's statement that he must face this killer. Peter: "Chief's right, Pop. You can't take responsibility for this. I mean maybe it was a mugging or a hate crime, like this woman has it in for men or something." Caine: "No, it is personal, I am the one she wants. Strenlich: (getting hotter) "Hey, ninety percent of all crimes are personal. But they're our business. (to Caine) You listening?" Caine: "Yes, I have heard." This is way too noncommittal for Strenlich. Strenlich: "Yeah, well, in case you haven't, remember this. I can lock you up here for seventy-two hours as a material witness to that first murder." Caine looks to Peter who looks at Strenlich. Peter: "I'm...uh, pretty sure we can't hold him here, if...uh..." Caine: "I wish to leave." Peter: "Yeah." Strenlich understands and it frustrates him even more. Strenlich: "Peter, this is your case. And he's your father. Got it?" Peter: "Yes, sir." Strenlich: "Good." Peter takes a deep breath, turns and pulls Caine aside. Peter: "Pop, you know that I love you. And I respect you. Caine: (small smile) "Yes. I cherish it." Peter: "I want you safe. Will you just go home and stay out of this?" Caine: "I will leave." With that he tilts his head in a small bow to Strenlich and departs. When he's gone Peter returns to Strenlich and business. Peter: "Alright... she's mine. It fit the profile of her victims. I'm going out as bait. I even have a starting point. I'll find her." Strenlich: "What makes you think that you can cruise around the whole section of the city and have her zero in on only you? It's at that point that Peter has the flashback about attracting with the sense of smell. When he comes out of it, he tells Frank he's going to be completely irrisistable. |

| At the Ancient's
apartment, as Peter stumbles over what he needs from Lo
Si and he says the line about attracting someone. Lo Si
(spelled Lo See in this script) looks at him very hard
and says, "Perhaps the problem is your hair..."
Peter replies with, "Yeah, I'm a little overdue for
a cut, but that's not what I mean." :-) |

| At the bar, Peter is
accosted by the same women, then is goosed by one woman.
The male waiter doesn't say "I'm in the book
too", rather he eyes Peter and suggestively says,
"May I get you something." Peter is alarmed and
replies quickly, "No! No, I'm fine." The
bartender isn't Terry in the script. When Peter asks for
a beer, he replies, "Whatever you want,
Killer." There is not break between this and the appearance of Zia. In the script she has black hair and almond eyes. She introduces herself, then they cut to Caine at the boat. |
Monica Sztybel |
| A lot more time is spent
by Caine on the boat, where they describe the decor,
which includes Chinese paintings of bloody battles. Caine
sees a sea chest and opens it. He pulls out a ceremonial
sword, a silk gown, a leather pouch, "then something
else... a small medal attached to a ribbon. He looks at
it...a medal on a bright red ribbon, the ribbon, however,
is frayed and blackened, half-burned." Caine goes into a flashback to the temple: Young Peter runs through, calling to his father who stops for him to catch up. Peter: "Father, Father! I won!" He comes up, out-of-breath, proudly displaying the medal in his hand. The younger Caine smiles. Peter: "I was the first in the class. I solved the puzzle of the tiger's paw!!" Caine: (proud) "It is a difficult problem. You have done well." Peter holds out the medal. Peter: "May I wear it?" Caine: "If you wish. But the prize..." Peter: (interrupts, grinning) "...I know, is not the warrior's goal." Caine nods, they walk off. Back in the present Caine peers at the medallion. Caine: "The hunter has become the hunted." So instead of him having images of Tan and saying that line, he says it after thinking of Peter. This makes more sense to me than how they have it in the final episode, though the line can be interpreted in two ways. Peter is the hunter who is now the hunted. Or Zia is the hunter, and Caine is now hunting her. |

| The next scene is in
Caine's place as he's preparing to meditate. He holds the
medallion in his hand and says, "There is little
time. She is stalking my son...(re: the medallion) She
has been to his home." |
Monica Sztybel |
| They cut to the club and
have the discussion between Peter and Zia. The difference
is that neither one brings up losing their fathers. The
scene ends with them agreeing to walk her home from the
club. |

| Caine's visitation with
Master Po is much longer, they share tea and Caine goes
into detail about how he killed Tan. Master Po says,
"...I cannot give you what you
seek...forgiveness." Caine lowers his head. Master Po: "It is not mine to offer. I cannot forgive you what you did not do." (beat) "Consider the exercise I presented to your grandfather. You know it?" Caine: "Yes." Master Po: "What is the real lesson?" Caine: "Balance." Master Po: "Yes. The pole I walked on is the answer. It is nature, heaven, the yin and yang. It, and it alone, will determine what will fall and what will not." (beat) "Tan was out of balance... the course, the way had to be straightened. You at that moment were merely the instrument of their correction. You were the fire that consumed Tan, but not the wind that swept him to his death... Remember, too, the scales must, from time to time, swing both ways as balance is sought. From evil to good, good to evil... Who is the fulcrum this time...you, or Tan's daughter?" |
Monica Sztybel |
| Peter's flashback about
the empty hand is not as effective as in the episode.
Also, Caine is not the one teaching him in the script,
though the instructor uses a knife that adds some tension
to the scene. |
Monica Sztybel |
| The rest of the script
is like the episode. |
