Secret Place
by Linda Schwartz

I had to do it, had to get on that bus, all those kids lives at stake. You told me all I needed was my own courage. Well, Pop, we're going to find out if it's enough.

I remember all my training, at the temple and the precinct. I would need it to keep this troubled soul from destroying everyone.

I tell you, Pop, that I'm going to a secret place and hope you remember, you do.

I get the hostage taker's trust, I hope this can all end peacefully. But it does not.

One shot takes a life, his life. I thought we were all done for. You were there again for me, Pop. I knew you'd find me. Just like you did so long ago.

My secret place, I come to sit by the lake, not unlike the one from my youth. I'm so confused, my emotions are all jumbled. I tried to help this man, but no. I couldn't save him.

Suddenly I can feel your presense. "Am I invited?", I hear you ask, you remember what I told you the last time about my secret place.

You try to help me sort through my feelings, but I just need to be alone, you understand. I feel your hand on my shoulders. Thanks Pop.. ..
