Not For a Minute
by Linda Schwartz
Not for a minute did you believe I did it. For a moment I doubted you, I should have known better.
The look in your eyes said it all, Your belief in me was unshakable. Your love for me beyond words.
You would be fighting for me, you said, those words lifted my heart. The sorrow and pain I was feeling almost crushed me. I could not think of that now, I have to prove my innocence.
I know you don't approve of my escape, I had to do it. For myself and
Rebecca. Had to find out who really killed her.
On this path I discover things about myself and remember lessons learned from you father. I learn to appreciate what you taught me, they are my survival now. They keep me on this path to the truth.
When the truth comes all I want to do is kill the man who did this, but that would diminish all that I am and have become. It would diminish the part of you that is in me, father. That I will not do! I do the right thing and let the law take him.
When I see you there your hand on my shoulder, all is well again and you can once again breath and your world can go on. I didn't realize it had stopped for me, but it had to. I am your son, your life, your hope. you could do no less than be by my side.
I thank all of my friends and family, but my world starts again when I see you at the end of the bar. The most important thank you if saved for you, father. Not for a minute did you lose faith in me, turn your back on me, or stop loving.
My heart is so full I think it will burst as I hear your words of love and feel your arms embrace me.
